Hickory Ridge Academy was born in the hearts of Hickory Ridge Community Church Pastor Calvin and his wife and HRA Administrator, Sherry Corbitt, M.Ed. Parents to five children, their youngest son, now a teenager, was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, along with a seizure disorder at a very young age. In their pursuit to help their son, they discovered the options were few, and what did exist was extremely expensive. They found many people who were also struggling to help their children with Autism, and other learning disabilities, find a school that would meet their needs. Calvin and Sherry soon discovered that most schools teach to the middle or average student. The result? The gifted are bored and the ones with learning disabilities were left behind. To say the least, they fully understand and appreciate the importance of meeting both the individual educational and special needs of each child.
Hickory Ridge Academy was founded for the purpose of educating students according to their educational bent, without compromising our core beliefs. Instructing students based on how they learn, instead of the one-size fits all approach. Both Pastor Calvin and Sherry share a vision to partner with families to know, love, honor, and serve God. The mission of HRA, as an extension of the Christian home, is to educate in Truth, train in righteousness, and fully develop each child in body, mind, and spirit. HRA is committed to serving God, teaching and modeling a Bible-based, Christ-centered world view.
HRA is committed to strive for academic excellence, providing educational programs that create a learning atmosphere that develops a desire for high achievement, encourages student participation, critical thinking and problem solving. The faculty and staff are strong in their relationship with Christ, value each child as a unique creation of God, and provide educational opportunities for diverse learners; both gifted students and those with special needs. .
