Elementary School-Grades 1-5
Education is a continuous lifelong process that includes developmental goals and milestones along the journey. Hickory Ridge Academy has the privilege of partnering with families early on in their child's educational journey to provide a strong, biblically-based, academic foundation in the formative years of childhood development.
Elementary teachers at HRA have developed innovative ways for children to learn through an integrated approach to the curriculum. While benchmarks set by the state of Virginia generally guide the framework of our curriculum, teachers develop those units in a way that integrates Biblical truth and connects various subject areas.
Teachers help students build a solid academic foundation, learn to love Jesus, and learn to care for others. Students continue to grow in their academic skills and their discipleship and are expected to assume more responsibility for learning.
Middle School is a challenging time of transition for students and parents. The staff at HRA is dedicated to helping our students navigate the challenges they will face, and grow into the person that God intends for them to be.
Middle school academic program provides a solid foundation in core subjects. Textbooks are not the curriculum, but are viewed as an important resource to meet learning objectives. Textbooks are formally reviewed on a cycle determined by the administration. Textbooks are selected by a process that is led by the principal and includes input from faculty. Upon receiving faculty input and consulting state and national curriculum standards, the principal then makes a final approval for textbook adoption. The use of Christian textbooks receives strong consideration when the content of the textbook aligns with the learning objectives of the academic program.
Our faculty and staff are committed to the discipleship of our middle school students by integrating biblical truth into every subject they teach.
